LAMA Achieves A World Record Price for a Work By George Nakashima
June 13, 2004 proved a phenomenal day for Los Angeles Modern Auctions (LAMA), as a rare dining table designed by George Nakashima achieved a world record price.
A George Nakashima dining table achieved a world record price of $129,250 (Hammer of $110,000). This is the highest price achieved at auction for a work designed and executed by George Nakashima. {A previous high price of $130,500 (Phillips, NY, June 2003, Lot #174) was started by George Nakashima in 1989 but finished and signed by his daughter, Mira Nakashima in 1992 after George’s death}
In total, the sale was 80% sold with the average lot selling for just over $2,700.
