The June 18, 2006 Modern Design & Art Auction will feature over 350 lots of vetted high quality mid-century modern fine art and design including a Charles & Ray Eames “building”.
Highlights include:
- Charles & Ray Eames “THINK” Kiosk, designed for the IBM Pavilion in the 1964 World’s Fair (please read the essay as published in the catalogue). Estimated at $80,000-100,000.
- Andy Warhol “Crab” painting. A first for LAMA, we are pleased to present this original artwork by Warhol estimated at $60,000-80,000.
- Sam Maloof “music” stand. This unusual version was custom designed in 1963 for the painter RicoLebrun, to be easily stored in a small space. Consigned by his heirs, it is estimated at $20,000-30,000.
- Man Ray red and gold anodized aluminum complete chess set. “Found” in the bottom drawer of a house with the furnishing designed by Paul László, this set is estimate at $6,000-9,000
- Jean Prouve group of 10 matching “Standard” chairs with original vibrant red paint. Estimated at $45,000-50,000.
- Frank Lloyd Wright side chair. This well known chair was designed for the S.C.Johnson Wax Administration Building, Racine, WI, in 1936. It is estimated at $40,000-50,000.
- Gio Ponti executive desk. With the consistently strong auction prices for Ponti, this incredible design is estimated at $70,000-90,000.
