John Rhoden
(1917 - 2001)

African-American sculptor John Rhoden (1917-2001) is most noted for his wood and bronze sculptures he produced while living in Brooklyn, New York. Known as a sculptor of public art, Rhoden created sculptures for the exteriors of the Harlem and Bellevue Hospitals. One sculpture of a pair of giant hands holding a family on the exterior of the Harlem Hospital has become an iconic symbol for Harlem.
