Amir Fallah's Liminal Portraiture

Amir Fallah via Louis/Buhl & Co.

Born in Tehran and based in Los Angeles, Amir Fallah uses and subverts art historical conventions of portraiture to make his vibrant negotiations of individual and collective identities. Fallah frequently draws from from Persian miniatures, 17th century Dutch painting, and hyper-active American visual culture to create paintings, murals, sculpture, and installations that grapple with immigrant experience and identity and, more specifically, the phenomenon of being from neither here nor there. Fallah received his MFA from the University of California, Los Angeles, and was awarded a Joan Mitchell Foundation Painters and Sculptors Grant in 2015.
